Can you say OZ SUPER FAN?!?!

A have been waiting for a while for Disney's

OZ The Great & Powerful

to hit the theaters!

And of course the anticipation got my Oz gears turning.

Have you ever seen inspired looks before?  Where people take regular cloths and mix and match them to resemble a character.  I have seen a lot of them for Disney characters and they are so darn adorable, a way to look like your favorite character but also look like an adult, not a 5 year old in your princess costume. Although if I could get away with it I just might do that too!

When the movie night started coming closer I was thinking of creating an inspired look for Oz!  I starting doing a little research and found the new Oz collection from HSN.
Which is seriously amazing but a little to rich for my blood. ;)

So I took the ideas of the HSN Oz collection and starting searching for similar pieces on Amazon and Khol's.  I found some really cute look a like stuff but I was feeling kinda guilty spending money on a movie premier outfit, I mean who am I, certainly not Michelle Williams or Mila Kunis!  So while it was fun to window shop I decided to give it up.

Of course with the movie release it just got my Oz geek side going and I was looking at Oz stuff all over the web.  Then I came across something seriously awesome!

I mean only seriouse Oz fans would have 'em.

And only the crafty Oz fan's would make 'em instead of buy 'em for $85 from an Esty shop.

Well, I happen to be both!

So here is my stand out piece that I can wear to the movie tonight, it's not a whole inspired outfit but I happen to think it is better then all that, not to mention cheaper.

And by cheaper I mean FREE!

I had all the supplies on hand and got to work!

Poinsettia Hair Flower

Well here's the thing.  I started my own blog, and linked it over here but I just don't have it in me apparently to post to two blogs.  I will just label my posts over here Hairbrained Ideas, and that will be that. Still a little slice of the web to post my creations but not the pressure (so much pressure, ahhh) of my own blog.

With that said, here is my first creation to be posted.

We were gifted this gorgeous dress from another manager my husband worked with when Miss. Avery was born.  It also has a beautiful red winter coat to go with.  Back then I couldn't have imagined the day it would have actually fit her, but this Christmas was it!  A dress like this doesn't need much, who am I kidding anything, extra but I just had this vision of a beautiful poinsettia flower in her hair.

On a trip to Wally one day I was on the hunt for supplies.  The hair clips, and bundle of flowers cost me $2.25!

First I plucked apart the bundle of flowers and combined together the four flowers into two to make the flower a bit more full.  I had some red ribbon at home and hot glued it around the clip.

Then hot glued the flower layers to the red ribbon hair clip.  I didn't like the stuff that was in the middle of the flowers originally (don't know what it's called), so I replaced it with a large clump of sparkling yellow beads.
I squeezed out a large dot of hot glue and mounded on the beads, and added a little more glue and repeated.
I loved how it turned out and I ended up with a hair flower for Miss. Avery and one to share!

Simple, pretty, and cheap! Can't beat that!

Piano Overhaul Part 1

When opportunity knocks you open the door right, or in our case we demo a piano.

We got an opportunity to upgrade our piano.  Neither of us play but we are hoping that one day our kids will.  Who am I kidding it won't really be an option for them actually, but that's beside the point.  Our old piano was a craigslist freebie find.  The family that owned it before us were moving and couldn't take it with them. They started their own renovation but I am quite sure this was not what they had in mind.

Avery helped Uncle Nathan pull away the bottom front panel and loosen up some other things underneath.

She was quite happy to do so as you can see.  That helped us detach the front of the piano completely.

She also helped Papa with some very large blots holding the giant back metal piece that had a large part with the strings.

Levi also helped in the back with some little baby wrenches just his size.

At the end of last night we removed a giant seemed to be cast iron metal thing, and cut and removed the bulk of the wires.

My job now is removing the rest of the wires, then next I get to remove all of those pins that the wires were wrapped around.  Fun hey!?  Well, that part might be a pain in the neck but I have a feeling it will be worth it in the end.

Hopefully progress wont be too slow in this piano redo project, but at least we started out with a bang.  Hopefully I will be to report some new progress soon!  Until next time, enjoy pondering what in the world I am doing to my piano.
